Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient martial art which is based on Taoist philosophy. We believe that it developed in China during the Sung dynasty. Some people view it as mild exercise but those who practice other forms of martial arts recognise it as a martial art that takes a long time to learn and even longer to perfect. It can be likened to climbing a hill and not reaching the summit. Remember, the longer you learn, the more you understand that you still have much to learn. However, do not despair, the longest journey begins with the first step.
The practice of Tai Chi Chuan consists essentially of a series of continuous slow, smooth and graceful moves, executed with suppleness and in a relaxed manner. It is a gentle art that can be practiced by almost everyone, male, female, old, young, strong, weak, large or small.
The concept of Yin and Yang becomes clearer as you progress, as does the awareness of the Chi or energy within oneself. this insight can be developed to such an extent that your whole body can benefit from just 10 to 15 minutes practice each day.
These few word cannot, neither are they intended to, give you any more than the briefest glimpse into the art of Tai Chi Chuan. Come along and learn for yourself, it could change your life forever.
